Term 4 Week 2
Letter of the week: d
"Amelia's mouth, close it, tall stick"
Reading homework
Just to clarify how I am running my reading programme...
your child will have read a book in class that is at a challenging level for them (in guided reading groups). S/he would have worked on strategies to work out new words, practised his/her "story voice" for fluency, looked at features of text and may have, depending on level, studied spelling patterns.
Your child is then able to choose a book to take home to share with you. Often this is a "kit box" book - a range of easier books or books that they have read before.
The reasons for an easier book coming home are:

The reasons for an easier book coming home are:
- I want your child to be successful reading with you so that you can all enjoy story time
- your child gets to choose what they would like to read and often they like to repeat books - it builds confidence and fluency
- reading at home should be enjoyable not hard work
If you have any queries regarding this then please let me know in person or by email.
Skoolbo
I will be sending home information about how to download Skoolbo and your child's login details. This is an optional tool for learning and children appear to enjoy the game-like feel of it. And it is free!

Reporting
I reported on your child's school entry earlier this year when we met to discuss the School Entry Assessment.
Since then you would have had your child's Learning Journey come home. In this you would have seen samples of your child's work, self-assessments and National Standards reporting. I hope that you enjoyed sharing this with your child. Please feel free to check in with me with any queries regarding these. Also, please send these back in to school as soon as possible so that we can add our Term 4 items.
The next part of the reporting process is for us to meet again when your child reaches the age of 5 years and 6 months. I will be in touch with you as these dates approach for your child so that we can arrange a time to meet. For some students this may fall in the summer holidays or in the new year. In these cases we will meet at the end of this year.
Written reports will be sent out when your child reaches 6 years old. For Room 6 this will be next year.
Transition survey
Please complete and return the transition survey that was sent out to you. We really value the feedback that will come from this survey. Thanks in advance.
